The best way to start the internal growth process is through an internship, that helps establish a strong connection between Tricon Energy and potential employees at an early stage. Through the program, we seek to identify young potential traders and/or leaders - people who are driven and motivated to achieve success - as well as to educate those potential leaders on the realities of Tricon and the international trading business. In this way, when the future employee is ready to enter the job market, not only he will he have an advanced understanding of the international trading that we do, both Tricon and the employee will understand each other better. We can be completely aware of each other's expectations and possibilities, making the transition into a job smoother and more efficient.
Details
We draw on students from all regions and universities, ranging from large, local universities like Texas A&M, to small liberal arts colleges like Princeton University. Candidates can be from any field, and apply during their Junior year.
The program is designed to expose students to the typical working environment of an operations person and trader. We don't believe in basic "shadowing" and busy work as the best approach to teaching. Rather we believe in a hands-on and active teaching method. Every intern we take will be given a purpose during their time with us. During your period with Tricon you will be given many projects to work on; including market research and analysis, cost optimization methods, and even self-initiated proposals. Also, if your desire is for an international exposure, we will try to design your internship so that it includes stages at one of our offices around the globe.
Experience
As an intern, you will accompany traders and operations to business meetings where you may meet many of the companies we do business with - from small customers to our largest production partners. Interns enjoy dinner and lunch meetings, and may even have the opportunity to attend a global conference.
Our interns travel the world. Although an intern will be based at one of our core offices, in the past we have had interns visit various international locations in the same summer. Locations have included Turkey, China, Chile, and Colombia.
On top of all the learning and work, we want you to have fun with Tricon. Wherever you are, you will find the same Tricon spirit. Our offices are very hospitable and take good care of guests - including interns! Fellow co-workers will invite you to meals to help you feel included. You have the opportunity to attend company-organized social events which can be anything from night of bowling to happy hour.
